About John King
John King has accumulated 55 years of shotgun shooting experience, starting as a boy of ten rough shooting in the Warwickshire countryside,

He served in the Royal Navy for 25 years; many of those spent as a trainer in a vast variety of weaponry. His first encounter with clay targets came about when he was a leadership trainer at the Royal Navy Leadership school in Wiltshire during the early 1970s.He began coaching the students in the skills and pleasures of clay shooting and in doing so became totally committed to the sport.
John went on to design and open up the Royal Navy's first ever clay shooting venue at Portland in Dorset and was instrumental in getting Clay shooting established as a Recognised Royal Navy Sport. When he was not coaching Naval personnel during weekdays; he was taking every opportunity to provide clay shooting coaching at weekends in the Wiltshire countryside near his home. He got himself qualified as a C.P.S.A. Coach and became a Senior Sporting Coach in 1984.
Having left the R.N. in 1987 John and his Wife Maureen opened up the now Renowned Barbury Shooting School on the site where he had been doing his weekend coaching near Swindon.

He soon built up an enviable reputation both Nationally and Internationally for his Unique style of coaching. He began writing articles in Shooting magazines and had his first clay shooting book published in 1991. John has designed private clay shooting layouts at home and abroad, and has been required to take his coaching skills to the U.S.A.

During the late 1980's John put together the first ever Coaches course for the B.A.S.C. and has trained many other Coaches since then; their successes are testament to his depth of knowledge.
John's coaching style is very relaxed and without frills. He is adamant that coaching should be simple and most importantly ; should always be fun for the pupils. There are now around 30,000 of Johns pupils who would describe their lessons with him as highly informative enjoyable experiences.
He has skillfully presented this book so that the readers have a similar enjoyable experience.
John and Maureen sold Barbury Shooting School during 2007 although John very happily remains there as a much sought after Coach.
For the last 10 years, John has combined his Shooting coaching with working as an Executive Life Coach where he has been able to utilize his considerable Leadership and Psychology training. As part of his life Coaching he has gained qualifications in Nureo Linguistic Programing ( NLP ) He now uses Inner Game NLP techniques ( as used by many top level Sports Psychologists ) extensively in his shooting coaching to great effect.
